About Us

The inception of AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com is an interesting story.

In the early 2000’s J.D. Wyczalek (why-zall-ick) was working at a public middle school for a few years, and then he transferred to one of the local public high schools in the Phoenix Scottsdale Arizona area.

J.D. was in the Information Technology IT department at both the middle school and the high school. He had several students who were his TA’s (teacher assistants). His TA’s would assist with tasks such as rebooting computers, putting paper in printers and other technology tasks.

The word got out at that high school that J.D is pretty cool, and he became their surrogate counselor, answering questions and being a friend. He had students come to him and ask for advice involving high school curricula, help with boyfriend/girlfriend, college and more. More and more students started seeking his advice.

J.D. has always been an entrepreneur. In his early 20s, he and a friend started a t-shirt company. The original designed t-shirts were flying off the shelf. He and his partner couldn’t print enough t-shirts to keep up with the demand. About three months into this venture, they got a cease-and-desist letter from the Grateful Dead. Who knew the Grateful Dead had their own bank of lawyers?

That wasn’t his first business. His first business was with his brother. The brother team opened up Wonder Window Washers. They created and handed out flyers. J.D. and his brother worked all summer. J.D.’s goal was to earn enough money to purchase a Sony Walkman. He might still have that Sony Walkman in a box somewhere in the attic. At the end of summer, with a Sony Walkman in hand, high school started back up. Even though J.D. and his brother had people calling them to wash their windows, they stopped to focus on high school academics.

Long after the Grateful Dead fiasco, 2006. J.D. attended a franchise and licensing business conference. There were business owners selling systems to build and develop businesses in finance, mortgage, real estate, insurance, college planning, and more. He investigated the college planning industry for an entire year before he jumped on board. J.D. found that what he was doing at the public high school was exactly what he was currently doing except in a private business setting. He then launched his business as an independent educational consultant.

AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com

In August 2007 AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com was launched. J.D. placed an ad in a local paper to attend a free college planning workshop. That first workshop was packed out. Families were hungry to learn how to get into college without going broke.

With a proven college consulting plan and coach from the business conference, J.D. hit the ground running.

Over the last few decades, J.D. has perfected the formula for being admitted, getting the best scholarships and flat out, not going broke paying for college.

As the business grew, AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com evolved. Clients who were students and their parents would make requests which J.D. and his team incorporated into the college consulting business.

The requests started with, could you help us figure out how to best Demonstrate Interest? Could you show us how to find colleges? Could you add a class on how to study or a class on applications and essay writing? Yes! J.D. did all those things.

One of J.D.’s former employees, Sal, helped the team crack the code on Demonstrating Interest. While J.D. was discussing these ideas with a student, this student, Rachel ended up naming the proprietary Demonstrated Interest program and process “College Touch Points”.

The students who follow this plan have been extremely successful, so successful that students of AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com have been admitted so some of the top, most difficult to be admitted to, lowest admission percentage colleges and universities. These colleges and universities include, Yale University, Columbia University, Duke University, Brown University, Colorado School of Mines, Pitzer College, United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, UCLA, USC, Stanford University, and more.

Some of these students who attended these highly selective college earned the coveted full-ride scholarship.

Fun Fact: Stanford University was founded in 1885 by California senator Leland Stanford and his wife, Jane, “to promote the public welfare by exercising an influence in behalf of humanity and civilization.” (According to the website.) Did you know that when Stanford University was first started way back in 1891, the college was originally called Leland Stanford Junior College? The college was named after the son of Leland Stanford, Leland Stanford Jr. Today the college is still legally titled Leland Stanford Junior University and is not a two-year community college.

Some students desire to attend one of the local Arizona state colleges which include Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University. The team at AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com have had students attend these colleges at a fraction of the cost.

Students at AZ College Consulting, LLC dba AZCollegePlanning.com have earned National Merit Finalist scholarship, the Flinn Foundation scholarship, Fullbright Scholars, and more.

Our proprietary program is specially hand crafted for each individual student.

We will meet with your student in a one-on-one setting and create a customized easy to follow program that will help your student stand out from the college applicant pool.

Small classes were added to the program to complement the one-on-one meetings.

J.D. and his team figured out that if he was to get a small handful of kids in a classroom, teach them the basics of how to study, how to beat the (SAT and ACT) test, how to do the basics of this or that, then he and his team did not have to waste time educating the student in the one-on-one meetings but could instead focus on the individual student’s needs, ambitions and goals.

During his time off, J.D. enjoys assisting philanthropic activities, including Jubilate Conservatory of Music, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, House of Destiny, and others.

J.D. also manages an amateur endurance car racing team. He and his team took second place overall at Willow Springs International Raceway in the Champcar Endurance Racing League.
