AZ College Planning classes

In addition to the personal student one-on-one meetings, we host a variety of classes that complement the one-on-one meetings.

Each class builds upon the other. Classes do not need to be taken in any order.

 

100 Student Class: SAT/ACT Prep ‘Beat the Test’ class

This class is an orientation of the SAT, ACT and P-SAT test. Strategies on beating the test are outlined in easy to follow steps. Students are given instructions on how to beat the test with accompaniment videos for further study and review. Best practice and score maximization techniques.

 

150 Student Class: How to Study class

Professor Robinson, Professor of Psychology, at Ohio State University, while teaching his class determined that students didn’t know how to study effectively. In 1941 he wrote a book entitled “Diagnostic and Remedial Techniques for Effective Study”. This book is out of print. I found a copy of this book and based the curriculum on this outstanding book. Depending on if you are an auditory learner, visual learner or kinesthetic learner, learning techniques are discussed and taught in this class.

 

200 Student Class: Get Ready to Get Ready for College class

In this class students will have an understanding of what college admissions officers look for in a college applicant so that they can start planning their activities, join specific clubs, do certain things with the aim of standing out in a sea of applicants. 

 

225 Student Class: How to Market/Promote Yourself to Colleges class

By systematically using the proprietary strategy, “College Touch Points”, the student can gather information about the college to help them determine if they really do want to attend that college while maximizing efforts for admission and scholarships. In this class students are taught how to develop rapport and how to follow up with the college admission department.

 

250 Student Class: Leveraging Admission class

This class covers what to look for in a college, how to read the poll and ranking numbers, how to review statistical data and look beyond the brochures and fancy websites and how to make it all benefit you, the student. Students are taught how to find and interpret statistical college data with the aim of using this data as leverage for admission and scholarships.

275 Student Athlete Class: Athlete’s Boot Camp class

In this class we will discuss how to self-promote yourself as a collegiate athlete and gain the attention of college coaches. How to find the best fit colleges where your student has a stronger shot at actually playing his/her sport rather than being on the bench.  (Also discussed in one-on-one meetings if your student is interested in playing a sport in college.)

 

900 Parent Class: The Financial Aid Forms class

In this class, AZ College Planning staff will review the FAFSA form line by line and demystify the process. Discussions of other financial aid forms are covered including the CSS Profile and proprietary financial aid forms.

 

950 Parent Class: How to Shelter Assets Maximize Aid class

In this class we will discuss what monies are reported and what products are sheltered from the financial aid system.

 

400 Student Class: Resume Building How & Why It’s Important class

(Mandatory for High School Juniors) Resume: A brief account of one’s professional or work experience and qualifications. Let the colleges know how awesome you are. Students are given a template that can be used to copy and paste into the online applications, simplifying the application process.

 

800 Rising Senior Student Class: Three-Day Essay and Application class

3-day class. The Essay and Application class is a hands-on working class. Students will fill out the application in the class. Students will brainstorm and write essays in the class. Ideally at the end of this multi-day live class, students will have their application completed, their resume ready and their essay ready. Students will know what to expect on the college application.  *Limited to 10 students per class. (for rising High School Seniors only). There are several session dates to choose from. Typically, this class is held in June.

 

850 High School Senior Class: Senior Spring Class 

Mandatory for Seniors! High School Seniors only class. (Parents encouraged to attend). In this class High School Seniors learn how to decipher the Award Letter/Aid Package, gain tactics to negotiate with colleges, learn what’s next in the college process, final college selection strategies and more. Secret strategies to gain more scholarships and grant money from college are outlined in this class.
